The challenge

Channels of Hope (CoH) is a global World Vision program that has been in running for over 20+ years. It exists in multiple adaptations, including HIV/AIDS, Gender, Maternal Newborn Child Health, Child Protection, and Ebola.

With the breadth and depth of Channels of Hope, the implementation guide to deliver the program was heavy and complex, at 178 pages. This led to inconsistencies in implementation and impact.

We were asked to distill the program and its components into a more simple, clear, and user-friendly tool.

The approach

In the initial conversations, it became clear that CoH is so big that it’s become different things to different people.

To simplify CoH, we had to have a unified CoH. We therefore conducted stakeholder workshops with people across the organization to understand the varying perspectives on the design and delivery of CoH.

From the stakeholder workshops, we were able to also get insights on what aspects of the existing implementation guide were leading to implementation inconsistencies.

Using these insights, we created and iterated on a new guide, which was called the Channels of Hope User Guide. Each iteration was adapted based on feedback from the stakeholders.
